On Jan. 15, 1977 the nude body of 20 year old Bernice Kuhlman was found in Polecat Creek near the bridge at 10300 S. 33 W. Ave. in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Kuhlman was last seen by friends the night of Jan. 14, 1977.
The State Medical Examiners Office ruled the manner of death as Homicide, cause of death being strangulation. The pretty redhead had just moved to Tulsa from Texas and may have been meeting pals from the Lone Star State the night she was murdered.
At the time, there were a number of "conflicting statements" from her friends, cops told the press. Bernice Kuhlman’s case remains unsolved
Bernice was my friend at that rime so I am disturbed rhat they haven't found her killer and I hope they will look at her case and check out the DNA. Peace Bernice my friend
ReplyDeletePlease look at her case and find her killer.
ReplyDeleteI miss Bernice and her killer must be found.
ReplyDeleteI want peace for her family.
ReplyDeleteI am still checking online and I know it has been over 40 years, but I dream that her killer will have his conscience ripped out of his soul by the almighty hand of God.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am still checking the status of Bernice' cold case murder. Several years ago an investigator from Tulsa actually answered my email, but I guess they dropped her case again. Bernice! I will never forget and I pray for justice all my life!
ReplyDeleteAre there cold case detectives in Tulsa County interested in finding out whom murdered my friend, even though it is over 40 years ago? I was sposed to go out with her that weekend but I don't remember exactly why I didn't. Ither I had to work or had a date.On here they make it sound like she was wild and running around to all the clubs but the Bernice I knew was like me.. party a bit, then take work seriously and had goals in mind, always. Bad things happen to good people and I wish to God she hadn't ran across the monster that took her life that night. This haunts me forever because it could have been me, just as well as her. And to think..no one cares to know whom did this? He could be your neighbor today. I know their family has given up on the perpetrator..My God isn't their a sense of responsibility to find out whom did this and how many more crimes were possibly committed?
ReplyDeleteI admit it messed with my head so bad... so terrified that it could have been any guy from the clubs...I stopped going to clubs. I think Bernice just met some guy whom seemed nice that evening. She had a lot of friends, but was very was dedicated to her work. As was I, and to this day, I always think of how this could have happened to me.
Please, someone, find out what happened. No one from her family speaks. I tried to talk to her mother years ago and she just couldn't bear it. Well, I vividly recall hanging out with Bernice with her tall stature and long hair and smile and someone accusing us of being sisters. I think that our friendship would have been like that and would have lasted a lifetime. Peace, my Sis
It's good to know that she has a friend like you who still cares! I've submitted a request for Cold Justice to look in to her case.
DeleteBernice loved in Corpus Christi when we met her. She lived in the apartment house that me husband and I managed at that time. We became friends and then wished her well when she went to Dallas to go to the airline school.
We later moved back to Oklahoma and discovered that she was working in Tulsa when we ran into her at a ZZ Top concert on Nov. 30, 1976. We did some catching up and exchanged phone numbers and addresses with plans to get together after Christmas.
We went to my grandparents in Texas for a few weeks and when we returned, we kept seeing this report on tv about finding this young girl murdered in Polecat Creek, but we didn't connect the dots until we got a visit from the police who had found our address in her stuff. We were crushed to hear what had happened to her and it has haunted me for all these years that they haven't figured out who did this to her.
I made progress for awhile, as far as getting a cold case detective involved, but Bernice's family don't want to deal with it.
DeleteWow thank you for emerging from your world and recognizing Bernice's existence and the life she lost.
ReplyDeleteAre you still there wondering what happened to Bernice like me?
DeleteI also was sequestered by the FBI as they tried to find out what happened. So you sent in a request to Cold Justice? Will they even try if we aren't family ?
ReplyDeleteI have gotten the attention of a sup't of the TCSO Cold Case Unit and it looks like they want to review the case. I am so excited to hope they will give it a try!!!
ReplyDeleteProgress is happening. The family is talking. Bernice, we will find justice for you, my sweet friend.
ReplyDeleteI am still trying to get Bernice's case reopened, but her family can't handle it. Sorry, Bernice, my friend.
ReplyDeleteHi Barbara,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Van and I was Bernice's brother-in-law, as I was married to her sister, Monika. I had to travel to Tulsa to have Bernice brought back to Canyon, Texas, for funeral and burial. I gave the police a couple of leads. But if you were her good friend, I would like to visit with you. Thank you for your continuing interest in Bernice
Hello, Van...I am so thankful to hear from you. Please let's talk about Bernice. I want to help.
DeleteVan, do you want to call me, or the cold case detective? Make a decision soon.
DeleteI WAS and STILL AM Bernice's friend, and I don't quite understand why her family hasn't wanted to find her killer.
DeleteVan, It may seem odd to you and Marty, but FOR SOME REASON I can't get Bernice's murder out of my mind. I am sure your family had to let it go, as far as whom did this to her. I won't let it go. I'll figure out another way to find justice for her. That cold case detective Marty talked to was so ready to help. Most sincerely,. Barb
DeleteVan, help me find out who killed Bernice
DeleteI am still wondering who murdered Bernice, especially on this anniversary of her death.
DeleteLet's figure out how to make contact.
ReplyDeleteSomeone please help me to find Bernice's killer. I don't understand why her family won't get involved. Hmmmm
ReplyDeleteShe was found naked añd strangled off a bridge, in January. C'mon people, we need to find that si ko
ReplyDeleteThis is horrible...just screaming into the wind of a tornado that never stops. Noone can do anything to stop or fix it
ReplyDeleteI am starting to think that family and friends of Bernice actually know who killed her and won't talk. They don't want to go back there. Very wrong. I will keep trying though.
ReplyDeleteI am still remembering Bernice. I won't let this horrible thing that happened to her end without justice.
ReplyDeleteIt's been, what? 40 sum odd yeàrs, and yet, until I die, I won't stop.
ReplyDeleteI wish there were a better way, but I have seemed to exhaust the resources at my disposal, to try to draw attention to Bernice's story. I am not dead yet, and so I will try to get her murder solved. Peace Bernice, my friend.
ReplyDeleteI am still working on it, Bernice my friend.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your picture and smile, and hope your family found that necklace.Miss you
ReplyDeleteI am going to stay in shambles until I die I suppose, lest we find Bernice Kuhlman's killer. That sumbuck is walking around.
ReplyDeleteSergeant Tressi Mizell with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office showed much interest in trying to resolve the case of Bernice's horrific murder, but was thwarted by lines of beauracricy.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder her family felt intimidated and as if they had to let it àll go
ReplyDeleteI can't forget Bernice's murder. I guess her family swept it under the rug. Me? I want the mf whom violated her and her beautiful life to pay every day and suffer.
ReplyDeleteAnd I told the investigators whom may be responsible, but if their family won't let us pursue, then who cares whom killed her? Maybe her brother.

ReplyDeleteI feel so horribly responsible to this day ,..that my association and new friendship with Bernice could have led to her death, and that mf is still walking around.
ReplyDeleteI have seen no responses in a long time regarding Bernice' murder. Of course I stopped sequestering Tulsa City and Tulsa County cold case units. I talked to the family and they, for some reason, don't have any interest in finding the killer.
ReplyDeleteI will fuss about this until I die. Bernice was like a sister to me.
ReplyDeleteI tend to think the family won't talk because they know whom did this and it is a family thing. Why wouldn't you be excited about cold case detectives and Bernice' friend trying to figure out what happened to old friend, all eager to help?
ReplyDeleteI am going to drive over there where they found her body. I have been so terrified to do this, but hopefully it will help me get some type of closure. Marty Kuhlman, if you truly loved your sister, ....
ReplyDeleteWho murdered Bernice Kuhlman in 1977? It's getting close to the horrible anniversary of her death, so is on my mind. Peace, Bernice!
ReplyDeleteBernice was found on January 15 1977, naked, strangled, in a creek bed, thrown off a bridge. Her horrible murder will haunt me all my life. When we hung out, I loved the way she would toss her hair back and laugh.
ReplyDeleteHere it is, August of 2023, and I am still here wishing Bernice ' case could be opened. We were friends in 1977. I am 65 years old now, and maybe it bothers me more than ever as I think of all the life she lost.
