THERE WAS never anything funny or heroic about the 1990 comic book store murder of Barbara George. And now, her husband Michael George faces his second trial in the grim slaying in suburban Detroit. According to The Detroit News, "Barbara George, 32, was found shot in the head at close range in the former Comics World store on Garfield near 19 Mile on July 13, 1990. The murder weapon was never found. Prosecutors theorize an unfaithful George killed his wife because he was unhappy in the marriage. Defense claims the killing resulted from a robbery and that George was at his mother's home in Hazel Park at the time of the crime"
The case had been cold for 17 years until it was reopened by authorities in 2007. George was arrested at his Pennsylvania comic book store, also named Comics World. He'd left the Detroit area in 1992 after marrying an employee with whom he had an affair.Opening statements in his trial are expected to go today. MORE IN THE DETROIT NEWS
