A CHILLING Indiana cold case marked a sad anniversary Wednesday. Shannon Sherrill was just 6-years-old when she was last seen outside her mom's trailer home on Oct. 5, 1986. And things quickly went ice cold and it appears cops are no closer to a resolution today than they were in the 1980s.
But the tragic little girl's family has never given hope that the killer will be caught.
Over the years, detectives have followed leads involving David Elliott Penton, a man who is serving a life sentence in Ohio for murdering a 9-year-old girl there but there has never been enough evidence to put him on the hook for the grisly
IN JUNE of 1985 a badly decomposed body was discovered in South Bend, Indiana behind what used to be the Howard Johnson Motel on State Road 933. The body was that of a male Caucasian estimated to be in his 20s, about 5`11" and 160 lbs. He had long, light brown hair and a mustache and was wearing blue jeans, gray Adidas tennis shoes, and a green Army jacket. The jacket bore a triangular emblem with the word "Spearhead" (emblem patch of the 3rd Armored Division, U.S. Army), and a patch above his right pocket
ON AUGUST 12, 1972 Vickie Lynn Harrell got into her car, a dark blue 1965 Plymouth Valiant 4 door at the K-Mart in Bloomington, Indiana. The next day she was reported missing. On Aug. 14, 1972 her body was discovered in Owen County east of Spencer.
Her body was left naked and she had been strangled. After she died the monster carved two alpha characters on her chest. The single mom was 25, white and lived in Owen County.
